so, after four and a half months, ive finaly finished reading Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell.

I have to say, its one of the better books ive read in the last few years. almost a historical document with a fantasy world seamlesly weaved into it. if you have ever read the flashman papers, give this a spin.

but what to read next? maybe some non fiction regarding the late Victorian era.....

well, i finaly decided to start learning the guitar (again).

my lvely lady abigail has had a lovely electro-acoustic for a while now, and the more i think about it the more i want to be able to play, even if its just wonderwall.

todays practice consisted of the chords A, E and D. todays practice also consisted of slightly tingly finger tips, and a little frustation at my lack of finger control.

lets see what tomorow brings...

another part of my coursework finished.

now ive done my tasty little java application (minus the auxilary classes) all i need to do is get the 1500 word report for it finished.

after much messing around for the last few days, ive finaly begun ot get my head around scratch programing GUI's in java.

all it took was help from an entire forum, both my programing tutors, and about 6 internet guides on about 4 differnt java subjects.

now im almost ready to get coding the guts of my creation!!!!

Reading: Flashman at the charge. take the biggest fictional coward character in victoriana, and slap him bang in the middle of the charge of the light brigade. classy.

Planning: driving lessons, uni projects (far in advance of them being anounced) and weekend activitys.

Wearing: blue jeans and black t-shirt.

Writing: not much as usual. some uml for the gui of my java project, uml and erd's for a database, and maybe oneday some short fiction peices ive knocking around my skull.

work is a doddle,

getting payed millege to travel to work on the bus (which i normaly have a pass to ise due to traveling to uni most of the week) or cycle is very handy,

a 4th die hard film involving hackers? fuck off...

the pink box from lush stinks of pink.. and now so does my office,

leaving the cat at the vet's overnight to get spayed was heart breaking,

my lovely lady abigail rocks,

tenacious D dont anymore,

im once again finding a love for tinkering with my mountain bike,

linux observations...

well, ive been using linux for a few weeks now, and its been a bit hit or miss so far.

i still cant get my printer working properly, and any documentation ive tried looking at for anything to do with linux (im looking at the documentation for Wine specificly) is fucking dire if your not either a computing graduate or someone with skills equating to a computing grad, not to mention its all aimed at developers with no user support in sight.

on the pluss side, the distrobution iim using (pclinuxos for those that care) is fairly easy in its use. it looks and feels close enough to windows for it to be comfortable for a n00b to use, it more or less took care of all the hardware implementation, and its got a lovely software/update system, which has saved me trying to grab any programs from the net and get them working.

my advice to the world? dual boot this baby with windows. you can do most anything in it (incuding run windows software with the aid of wine), and when you cant, youve always got old (un)faithul on hand.

now if only linux could do my uni coursework for me.....

oh dear lord, does the fog of london stink!!!!

after sticking my head out the door, i now think im much more equiped to describe the smells of victorian london to anyone whom may inquire.

for those not in the know, im now studying in my uni rather than an atached college, i got a job sorting stock for the music and video section of a supermarket, and i sent my cat to the vet to get spayed, which may well be one of the most heart wrenching things ive had to do.
